With Lone Star Arena providing the venue and X-Treme Team Roping implementing the game plan, The Big Break Team Roping kicked off the weekend of March 13th and 14th with a wide array of prizes and payouts for anyone wanting some good team roping fun. With Championship Tres Rios Trophy Buckles and Trophy Saddles as part of the prize line, there was no doubt the roping would be a favorite with ropers headed to spend the weekend in Stephenville.  Average Winners of each roping would also receive paid Shoot Outs to the X-Treme Finals. The payouts in each roping would be enough to entice many and the weekend shaped up to be a good one. 

The Open Roping, on Saturday March 13th kicked off The Big Break Team Roping. It proved to be a good one when Clay Tryan and Wesley Thorpe took the average win with a time of 38.98 on five steers to split $3000.  Tanner James and Jared Fillmore placed second with a 47.09 to pocket $1800.  The fast time in the short go round went to Brandon Farris and Steve Ross with a time of 11.25.  Tryan and Thorpe also received trophy Tres Rios buckles and X-Treme Team Roping Finals paid shootouts buckles for their win in the average of the Open Roping. It was a good way to start the day.

The win in the #15.5 went to Taylor Schmidt and Jake Edwards.  The pair put $3000 in their pockets with a run of 29.07 on four head of steers.  They also received trophy Tres Rios buckles and X-Treme Team Roping Finals paid shootouts. Cinch Moody and Jace Helton placed second with a time of 29.32.  The fast time in the short go round went to James Arviso and Kaden Prince with a time of 6.62.

Clay Adams and Kolby Krieger set the pace in the #13.5 Roping.  The pair was 28.02 on four head to take the win and split $4000 and trophy Tres Rios buckles. Sam Miller and Zant Lewis placed second to pocket $2800 with a time of 30.31.  Chick Wilfong and Parker Carbajal had the fastest time in the short go round with a time of 6.73.

The #12.5 Roping proved to be close one.  Dalton Sheridan and Cody Egusquiza took first place with a time of 30.4 to win $6200, trophy Tres Rios buckles and X-Treme Team Roping Finals paid shootouts.  Justin Zemeno and Alfonso Gonzalez challenged the winners for first place with a time of 30.72 to win second.  The pair also split $4000 for the efforts.

When the #11.5 roping kicked off one thing was evident.  Jean Poythress and Luke Franklin came ready to rope.  And they did.  The pair won the #11.5 with a time of 30.73 on four head of steers to pocket $5000.  The pair also received trophy Tres Rios buckles and X-Treme Team Roping Finals paid shootouts for their efforts.  Rick Percivill and Cody Egusquiza placed second in the roping with a time of 31.35 and the pair split $3600 for their efforts.  Duke Barker and Alan March had the fastest time in the short round with a time of 13.09.

The #10.5 X-Treme Gold would wrap up the roping events on Saturday at the Lone Star Arena as The Big Break closed out the first day’s events.  Gilbert Carrillo and JB Kirchenschlager won the #10.5 X-Treme Gold with a time of 30.17 on three head.  The pair split a check for $3200, plus each roper received trophy Tres Rios Gold buckles and X-Treme Team Roping Finals paid shootouts.  Brandon Carrell and Kenny Van Pelt split $1800 to place second in the #10.5 Gold with a time of 46.79 on three head.  

As Saturday came to a close the roping events had been fun. Everyone seemed to savor and enjoy the day.  It would set the stage for an exciting day on Sunday as The Big Break Roping would continue the following day.  

Sunday March 14th kicked off at the Lone Star Arena with everyone excited and ready for some good team roping action.  The #10.5 Roping would take the stage as the first roping of the day.  Dalton Sheridan and Dodge Hare would take the win in the roping with a time of 30.46 to split $7000 for their efforts.  Sheridan and Hare also received trophy saddles and X-Treme Team Roping Finals paid shootouts as the average winners. Shelton White and Raul Hemandez won second with a time of 30.86 on four head to pocket $5000 and trophy Tres Rios buckles.  Sam Miller and Charlie Barefoot III won third to split $4000.

When the Super #9.5 Handicapped Prize Roping kicked into gear, Jake Dollander and Will Smith knew exactly what they wanted and why.  The pair took the win in the Super #9.5 with a time of 30.16 on four head of steers to split $9000.  They were also awarded trophy saddles and X-Treme Team Roping Finals paid shootouts for their average win.  Aaron Escobar and Alfonso Gonzalez placed second with a time of 31.73 on four head and the pair pocketed $5000 and received trophy Tres Rio buckles for their efforts.  Kyle D. Karins and KJ Ashkar placed third with a time of 32.41 and a split of $3000. They also received trophy Tres Rios buckles for their efforts.  Lots of prizes and money was given way all the way down through 30th place.

The Super #8.5 proved to be another great roping for Will Smith.  It just seemed to be Smith’s weekend to shine. Smith and partner, Carson Emmons, won the average in the #8.5 roping with a time of 24.06 on three head of steers.  Smith took home his second trophy saddle and he and Emmons split $7000 for their efforts.  No doubt Smith would have some stories to tell about his weekend at The Big Break in Stephenville.  Smith would definitely have some bragging rights. Bob Holloway and Wyatt Howell placed second in the Super #8.5 roping with a time of 27.77 to split $5000 and they received trophy Tres Rios buckles.    Rick Percivill and Rusty Beatty placed third in the roping with a time of 28.76 and the pair pocketed $3000 and received trophy Tres Rios buckles for their work. The top thirty teams in the roping received a check and a prize, indicative of the payouts and prizes involved at most all of X-Treme Roping Productions.

As the roping finished up and came to a close on Sunday, March 14th it was pretty evident that the trip to Stephenville and the Lone Star Arena was well worth the time and effort.  Great prizes, awesome payouts, and an X-Treme Team Roping Production made the weekend quite lucrative and a lot of fun.  The Big Break Roping is now in the history books.  It was a memorable weekend for many and one that will be on everyone’s calendar for next year.
