Saturday morning March 20th in Gonzales, Texas kicked off as usual.  However, there seemed to be a hive of activity around the J.B. Wells Arena.  X-Treme Team Roping had arrived, and the South Texas Championships were about to get under way.  The weekend promised to be a good one with lots of prizes and money to be had by everyone participating.  Ropers were in for a fun filled team roping weekend. Without a doubt, X-Treme Team Roping had come prepared to give ropers all they needed to make it a winning weekend. If you wanted to rope the South Texas Championships in Gonzales was the place to be.

The #13.5 Division began Saturday’s events at J.B. Wells Arena.  When the dust clear midmorning, Tommy Kocian and Kaleb Friedel had taken the prize in the #13.5 Division with a time of 27.99 on four head of steers.  The pair won $5000.  Ethan Walden and Clay Schneider placed second to win $3000. Tommy Kocian and Cody Owens, had the fastest time in the short go round with a time of 7.54.

The #12.5 Division proved to be a good one for Misael Betancourt and Shane Durbin.  The pair took the win with a time of 29.34 on four head of steers to win $5000.  Kyla Stamps and partner, Justin Vallejo, placed second in the roping with a time of 32.09 to pocket $2800 for their efforts.  Chance Ray and Hunter Underbrink won the short go round fast time run of 5.61. The pair won $240 bucks for their fast run.

The #11.5 Division unfolded as a good one for ropers, Chance Ray and Will Harris.  Ray and Harris took the average win on four head of steers with a time of 31.56.  The pair won $4600.  Jared Holman and Ryan Mayfield placed second in the roping with a time of 32.58 to pocket $3400. Randy and Wesley Holcomb had the fastest time in the short go round with a time of 6.75.

The #10.5 Division was next on the agenda.  Kyla Stamps was out to prove today was a good one as she and partner, Wesley Glover, took the win in the #10.5 with a time of 33.34 on four head of steers.  The pair won $5200. Glover continued his winning streak by heeling for partner, Shelton White.  White and Glover placed second in the #10.5 with a time of 35.55 on four head of steers to win $3700.  

Sunday March 21st was another good day for team roping in Gonzales, Texas.  The # 9.5 Prize Roping  would kick off the day’s events.  Trophy Saddles would go to Average Winners and the payouts promised to be good ones. Porky Garcia and Justin Garza made themselves known when they won the #9.5 Division.  The pair posted a time of 38.37 on four head of steers and won $4800.  The pair was also awarded a Trophy saddle each for taking the win in the average.  Christ Birck and Neil Crites placed second in the roping with a time of 41.67 to win $3000. 

The # 8.5 Division did not disappoint. Saddles would be awarded to first place in the average.

Logan Paschal and Alex Gutierrez nailed down the win in the average of the # 8.5.  The pair roped three steers in a time of 22.46 to pocket $5800. The pair were also awarded Championship Trophy Knives. Kyle King and Preston Peay won second in the average to win $3600 with a time of 28.19 three head of steers.    

The # 7 Division would wind up the weekend’s events in Gonzales.  Melanie Mahurin and Jett Garrett would take the win in the # 7 with a time of 26.72 on three head. It was a good way to wind of a Sunday afternoon of Team Roping. The pair split won $2400 and took home beautiful trophy breast collars.  Kolden Huebner and Anthony Herrera placed second in the roping.  Cesar Alaniz and Jay Garza placed third in the roping with a time of 18.73 on two head of steers.  

As the roping events in Gonzales wrapped up for the weekend it turned out to be a fun place to spend some team roping time.  The weather had been good, the roping and fellowship delightful and everyone anxious for the next one to begin soon.  As always, X-Treme Team Roping puts out the effort to put on a good production and it was a good place to spend a team roping weekend.  The South Texas Championship was in the history book and it had proved to be a good one.
