The Winter Rose Classic kicked off the weekend of January 9-10, 2021 at the San Antonio Rose Palace in San Antonio, Texas.  Presented by X-Treme Team Roping the event was full of  enthusiasm, fantastic prizes and excellent payouts for all participants.  It proved to be fun weekend and quite memorable for those involved.  The weather was good, the roping was great, and everything was in place to make for some good team roping fun.

Chase Wiley and Joel Galvan, Jr. added their name to the list of the American Qualifiers.  With a time of 38.22 on four head of steers the pair kicked off the events of the day.

The #15.5 Slide appeared to Tres Moore’s cup of tea as he took first place and second place with partners, Will Harris and Justin Vallejo, consecutively.  The roping was good for a $1600 payout for first along with trophy Tres Rios buckles and $1000 for second place.

Eric Guevara and Justin Vallejo won the #13.5 Qualifier with a time of 36.94 on four head of steers to split $1,000 and also receive trophy Tres Rios buckles. Tres Moore and Vallejo connected again to take second place with a time of 27.36

The #12.5 Gold Qualifier proved to be a good roping for Scott Currie and Will Harris.  The pair posted a time of 20.32 to take the win. They both added to their point total for the year end Polaris Ranger.

The #12.5 Qualifier proved to be good for Kasen Russelburg and Levi Martinez.  The pair won first place with a time of 31.44 to capture the win.  Ben Clements and Pancho Chamberlain won second and Karson Johnson and Randy Hinds nailed down third place.

As Saturday’s roping came to a close everyone was in agreement it had been an interesting day.  Sunday’s roping could only be better and a continuance of good things to come.

The #10.5 Gold Qualifier kicked off the roping events for Sunday at the San Antonio Rose Palace.  The Winter Rose Classic moved into full swing as the final day of team roping unfolded.

Jim Frank Richardson and Will Harris set the stage for events to follow as the pair won the #10.5 Gold.  The pair had a time of 45.22 on four head of steers to pocket $2000 and trophy Tres Rios buckles.  Ben Clements and Candice Bowen placed second in the 10.5 Gold with a time of 47.04.

The #10.5 Qualifier was next and proved to be a good one for Walker Smith and Ryan Davis.  The pair took the win with a time of 34.34 to split $3600.  The pair also took home X-Treme trophy saddles.  Raudy Harlan and Emmanuel Guerrero placed second in the roping with a time of 34.6 to split $2600.  Harlan and Guerrero also received Tres Rios buckles for their effort.

With trophy saddles in the back of their minds, Mark Mireless and Bachie Acevedo laid it all on the line in the #9.5 Qualifier.  The pair won the average with a time of 36.27 on four head of steers. Mireless and Acevedo would also walk away with trophy saddles for their work and effort.  Walker and Will Smith placed second with a time of 45.1.  They received trophy Tres Rios buckles for their efforts and split $1500. Cash and prizes were given to everyone that made the short round.

It certainly seemed that Walker and Will Smith were on a greater mission toward some trophy saddles as the pair continued their mission in the #8.5 Qualifier. The pair had a time of 25.2 on three steers.  In addition to pocketing $2000 they took home the X-Treme trophy saddles.  Jade Philipp and Zane Starns placed second with a time of 28.95 in the #8.5 Qualifier.  They added $1500 to their bank account and received trophy Tres Rios buckles for their efforts. Jade Philipp and Rafael Garcia placed third. Cash and prizes were awarded to everyone that made the short round.

As the Winter Rose Classic came to a conclusion on Sunday January 10th there was no doubt it had been a fun and interesting run of events.  Trophy buckles and saddles, good payouts and the opportunity to qualify for the X-Treme Finals in August made the roping a worthwhile event.   Without a doubt, if you missed the Winter Rose Classic you would do well to add it to your calendar for next year.
